Join the Social Software Music Revolution with Last.fm

Posted on February 9, 2006 in

I just signed up for an account at last.fm, it seems to be a pretty good way to find out what music people like as well as share with others what your musical preferences are - see my profile here. No doubt, social music software and applications will start to form an essential part of Web 2.0

At last.fm, you get your own online music profile that you can fill up with the music you like. This information is used to create a personal radio station and to find users who are similar to you. Last.fm can even play you new artists and songs you might like. It’s addictive, it’s growing, it’s free, it’s music.

What you get when you sign up:

  • Personal music profile
  • Your own music charts
  • Friends and neighbours
  • Audioscrobbler plugin
  • Discussion groups and forums
  • Thousands of radio tracks
  • Your own music journal
  • Album art and artist stats

What’s nice is the Audioscrobbler plugin that works with Winamp - the plugin works in such a way that any music you play on Winamp is reflected on your last.fm music profile.
